Body Positivity

There is nothing wrong with loving the skin you’re in and your appearance. Growing up, I’ve always gone through being criticized for my weight and appearance. So much so that I had become very weight conscience and at times I would get so depressed and find myself downing myself. It hurt worse because most of the negative comments came from family. I felt like I never wanted to go over to family functions because I would always get some comment about my weight. Even when I got older and finally started to drop my baby fat I could not stand getting the comments about how much weight I’d lost.

I learned that I should not care about what others think because at the end of the day I am me and I have to walk around in the body I was born with. My mother always told me that people will talk about you until the day you die so you can’t spend your life worried about what someone thinks about you. Live your life. Learning to love myself for who I am and if I am unhappy with something and want to change it then that’s on me. One should never change themselves because of what someone else thinks. If you change, you should change for the better and for no one but yourself. No one is going to take care of you.

I still struggle with being weight conscience but to a certain extent. I no longer allow it to take over my life. I’ve learned to love myself for the size I am and even my imperfections. I choose to work on myself to become healthier and to accomplish realistic goals for myself. No one is perfect in this world and I woke up to the harsh reality that those picture-perfect models we see even have photoshop done. Nothing and no one is perfect, and you cannot spend your life trying to accomplish some else’s impossible goal. I believe in taking care of oneself in a healthy manner and this starts with being positive about yourself. When you dress better you feel better. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are beautiful and believe every word of positivity. You may laugh or think it’s stupid but it worked for me. If you start doing better for you a little by little and day by day you will be better and the people around you will too. Start treating yourself better and others will treat you better too.
